Introduction
Cartwright Care owns two nursing homes. Rob Baillie, Head of Operations, oversaw the business’s first acquisition with Peninsula support.
The issue
Cartwright Care bought out a nursing home. As part of the acquisition, the business took on 70 new employees. But soon into the takeover, Head of Operations Rob found that the home didn’t meet the high standards that Cartwright Care prides itself on…
From a lack of efficiency to non-compliant managers, the home had many deep-rooted issues. And worst of all, it risked failing a CQC inspection.
Rob informed the CQC, who agreed the home was performing badly – which meant the local authority refused to place patients into Cartwright Care.
So with the patients and the business at risk, Rob knew he needed to dismiss the managers.
The solution
Thankfully, Rob had access to Peninsula’s unlimited employment law advice. This gave him the confidence to act quickly and decisively, and navigate the disciplinary process with start-to-finish support:
“If we’d gone through the process without Peninsula, we might have been more reserved, more cautious, and not achieved the dismissal at all.”
Throughout the dismissal process, Rob knew he was on the right side of employment law. That’s because he shared everything he was sending over to his workers with his adviser, Samantha.
From disciplinary letters to emails, Samantha checked everything Rob was sending to the workers. She provided feedback to protect Rob from tribunal risk.
The outcome
Without the previous managers, Rob could hire professional staff and introduce better processes. This meant Cartwright Care could remove its ‘inadequate’ CQC rating, admit patients, and provide them with high quality care.
As a result, Cartwright Care has since recovered and has nearly 80 percent occupancy – up from under 40 percent. Without Peninsula support, Rob doubts whether Cartwright Care would have survived.
And now, from redundancies to staff sickness, Rob can always make risk-free decisions – with unlimited support from Peninsula advisors.
